If you're planning to fly in South Florida, you'll definitely want to be briefed on these changes, which came into effect on July 9th, 2026.
To begin with, KTMB, Miami Executive Airport, has had its Class D airspace expanded. The new Class D extends up to 2,500 ft MSL within a 4.3 nm radius, with an extension reaching 5.9 nm west of the field that accommodates the 9L and 9R approach procedures. Additionally, the IAF for the approaches was changed from QEZZY to LAYDN. Full details in the FAA final rule and its April 2026 correction.
Additionally, if you try plugging in KPBI while flying to Palm Beach, you'll be surprised to find it won't appear. The airport is now President Donald J. Trump International Airport (KDJT), per FAA Notice 8900.780. Note: the IATA code (PBI) used by airlines and passengers doesn't change to DJT until August 18, 2026. See the airport's FAQ.
These changes bring both safety and efficiency updates to flying in the South Florida area. The expanded Class D allows for better IFR-VFR traffic separation and improved traffic flow in the Miami area.
